Blast Testing- Façade trials

Blast trials were conducted on behalf of the UK government to determine the blast performance of bolt fixed facades. The trials included one of the largest glass façade trials conducted in the UK. Further research was conducted in conjunction with Pilkington, Saint Gobain and SADEV resulting in the development of blast enhanced bolt fixed glazed façade systems.

Nottingham Station, UK

In 2013 the £60m redevelopment of Nottingham Station included the restoration and upgrading of the Edwardian Grade 2 listed building at the front of the station.  Working for the appointed glazing contractor Red Window Systems, CCL undertook the structural design of a range of bolt fixed glass facades including the laminated glass fin support beams.  Work included full calculation packages, General Arrangement drawings and manufacturing sheets for glass and fittings.

The Shard, London, UK

The external facade of The Shard was subjected to various forms of contamination during the construction of the building. CCL were tasked with developing a renovation process that restored the highly reflective appearance of the façade whilst not damaging the glass surface.

London Bridge Station, London, UK

CCL were appointed by Network Rail to oversee the implementation of all glazing packages at London Bridge Station. Activities included reviewing the design, monitoring the production and inspecting the installation of all glazed elements.

Heathrow, Terminal 2, UK

During the development of Terminal 2, CCL were responsible for ensuring the compliance with the DfT’s ASIAD security requirements on behalf of Heathrow Airports Ltd. The scope of works included the blast performance of the façade, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) and the landside glazing.

Following hand over of the Terminal, CCL provided training to the maintenance department on the correct way to manage the glass replacement process in the event of glass failure.

Gatwick, North Terminal, UK

CCL provided blast (ASIAD) and glazing advice to Gatwick Airport Ltd during the redevelopment of the North Terminal including the design and construction of the new façade.

In addition to the ASIAD review process, CCL conducted factory audits during the manufacture of the glazing to ensure the production achieved the Client’s stringent quality requirements.

Westfield (Internal Shop fronts)

Opening on 5 November 2015, The Bradford Broadway Shopping Centre includes 70 modern shop fronts glazed in high quality bolt supported glazing.  Working with a range of specialist contractors and glass manufacturers, CCL worked to tight dead-lines providing calculation packages, manufacturing details and reactions to structure for glass panels, entrances, signage and cantilever glass beams.

ADNOC New Corporate Headquarters, Abu Dhabi

Following the failure of a number of glass façade panels, CCL were appointed by the principle contractor, Six Construct Ltd to survey the building and determine the cause of the failures. CCL identified the cause, and provided technical advice to Six Construct during the replacement process and subsequent negotiations with the façade subcontractor.
